The Celebration of Receiving the Word of God
This festival is called Shavuot, meaning the Feast of Weeks. It commemorates the time when the Israelites stood at Mt. Sinai, 7 weeks after they fled Egypt and 7 weeks after the celebrated Passover. It was here that they would receive the Word of God, the 10 commandments. It was also on this day, 50 days after Jesus rose from the grave, that the Holy Spirit was given to empower the disciples of Yeshua. The Greek speaking Jews called this day, Pentecost, which means the Feast of the 50th day.
This festival celebrates the "Giving of the Word".
